As Good as New: The Revitalisation of 69 Target Road

Nestled in the leafy surrounds of Totara Vale, Auckland, the revitalisation of 69 Target Road is a shining example of what can be achieved when dedication, expertise, and teamwork come together.

One of the project’s key challenges was deteriorating timber structure. Through meticulous and in-depth timber analysis, a significant volume of the existing framework was identified for replacement. This essential step paved the way for a comprehensive re-cladding of the entire complex, the installation of new roofs, and the complete renewal of joinery throughout each unit.

The aesthetic rejuvenation is impressive. The fresh black and white colour scheme lends these 25+ year old units a modern, sophisticated appearance, creating a bold contrast against the natural bush surroundings and highlighting their striking contemporary edge. The use of James Hardie Oblique and Linea weatherboard claddings has introduced a dynamic interplay of vertical and horizontal lines, offering visual interest and a sense of architectural depth. Following the transformation, the quality of the renovation was so outstanding that prospective tenants mistook the refurbished units for brand new builds.

At the heart of the project stood CS&R, whose expertise as Engineer to Contract was instrumental in orchestrating the project’s success. Collaborating closely with LEP Construction Ltd and Resolution Architecture, CS&R’s leadership ensured that the $10.1 million transformation of 21 residential units was executed with precision, professionalism, and a commitment to quality throughout every phase.

CS&R’s rigorous approach guided the project from initial assessments through to completion, ensuring that every detail—from comprehensive technical evaluations to effective on-site teamwork—was held to the highest industry standards.

Today, the 69 Target Road development is more than just a collection of units—it’s a revitalised community that reflects the value of skilled project management, innovative design, and genuine collaboration. It stands as proof that with the right approach, even the oldest structures can be given a new lease of life, benefitting residents and the wider neighbourhood alike.
