David Clifton

David is a highly experienced building surveyor who has worked across residential and commercial property in New Zealand and overseas.
His work covers building remediation, defect investigation, client representation, compliance, maintenance and development projects. He has particular experience working with Body Corporates and commercial property owners on complex projects where clear advice, good communication and practical decision-making are important.
David has extensive knowledge of New Zealand building regulations and regularly assists clients with Code Compliance, historic building work and other technical property matters. After many years in the industry, there aren’t too many building quirks he hasn’t come across.
Alongside his project work, David has lectured at the University of Auckland and has been involved in training and assessing building surveyors through RICS and NZIBS.

- Client Representative – Technical client and advisory role driving project performance and resolving disputes with project team on 49-unit complex – $8 million.
- Project Lead – Project and Design Management of 17 storey apartment building refurbishment and repairs – $4.5 million.
- Project Lead – Project Monitoring and Development Monitoring Harris Systems (UK) including HQ relocation, national site consolidation (office and manufacturing) and capital investment works program – $36 million.
- Project Director – Whakatane Council Stock Condition Assessment including delivery of 600+ condition assessments and associated cost plans – $200 million works plan value.
- Project Director – Representation of various commercial companies for lease make good assessment and lease termination negotiations / settlement – $20 million

Amarita Khun Khun
Building Surveyor

Rita started her career in commercial property while studying for her Bachelor of Property at the University of Auckland. She joined CS&R as a Graduate Building Surveyor and has since progressed to Building Surveyor.
She works across commercial and Body Corporate projects, with experience in defect investigations, façade and flood remediation, fitouts and new-build projects. Her role regularly involves coordinating with clients, consultants, contractors and Council, so keeping a few moving parts under control comes with the territory.
Rita has a particular interest in building performance, compliance, property lifecycles and long-term asset planning.
Outside work, she enjoys travelling, exploring different cultures and architecture, and settling in with a good book, preferably somewhere with a decent view.

Kirsten Tanner
Assistant Building Surveyor
BProp (Bachelor of Property), BSci (Bachelor of Science)
Kirsten joined CS&R after completing a Bachelor of Property and Bachelor of Science at the University of Auckland.
Her role includes building inspections, reporting and supporting the delivery of remediation and maintenance projects. Her background in both property and science gives her a useful perspective when looking at building performance, sustainability and longer-term asset considerations.
Kirsten is continuing to develop her experience across building surveying, project coordination and compliance work.
Outside the office, she keeps herself busy with running and endurance events. After completing the Auckland Marathon and Half Marathon, she’s now taken on training for another full marathon and a 70.3 triathlon, deciding that ordinary weekends are a bit too relaxing. She also finds joy in travelling, outdoor adventures, and discovering new cultures and languages.

Cody Simpson
Assistant Building Surveyor
BAFE (Bachelor of Architecture and Future Environments)
Cody has a background in architecture and several years of experience across building consultancy and project work.
He started out working on Premises Condition Reports and Schedules of Condition before moving into project management and more complex building projects. His experience includes commercial structural upgrades, fitouts, multi-unit recladding projects, flood remediation and make good assessments, so he’s become fairly familiar with projects taking the occasional unexpected turn.
Cody holds a Bachelor of Architecture and Future Environments from AUT, along with a Certificate in Science and Technology. His main areas of interest include building performance and project coordination.
Outside of his role, Cody enjoys following sport, particularly golf and football, and has a strong interest in cars and motorsport.

Hayley McLaren
Graduate Building Surveyor
BProp (Bachelor of Property)
Originally from Fiji, Hayley moved to New Zealand to study at the University of Auckland, where she completed a Bachelor of Property.
Before joining CS&R, she had already gained experience in the property sector, giving her a good grounding in property, building performance, asset management and the wider built environment.
Hayley is now working across a range of commercial and Body Corporate projects, supporting the team with inspections, building investigations, reporting and project coordination while continuing to build her technical experience.
Outside work, Hayley enjoys keeping active and spending time outdoors. Growing up in Fiji gave her a lasting connection to the ocean, so swimming and trips to the beach are still high on the list, Auckland weather permitting.
Ashlee Armstrong
Office Manager
BBus (Bachelor of Business)
Ashlee keeps the day-to-day side of CS&R running smoothly and provides support across the wider team and business.
She has a background in office administration and customer service and holds a Bachelor of Business from AUT, where she majored in Market Insights and Sustainable Enterprise.
Organised, practical and good at keeping track of the details, Ashlee plays an important role behind the scenes supporting both the team and our clients, including keeping everyone pointed in roughly the right direction.
Beyond the office, Ashlee dedicates time to charity work with the Cancer Society and the Breast Cancer Foundation. She also enjoys traveling, getting lost in a good book and trying out new recipes, when her young children allow it.
